Venus verrucosa
Fun Fact: Fairly common in clean sand and gravel in low water.

Introduction: The warty venus (Venus verrucosa) has an extremely heavy and oval shell with the outer surface fashioned with eminent concentric ridges which divide into circular bumps near the edges. Fairly common in clean sand and gravel in low water.

Distribution: From the mouth of the Orange River to Luderitz, Sandwich Harbour, Swakopmund and Walvis Bay, Henties Bay, Torra Bay, Terrace Bay and the Kunene River mouth.

Diet: Siphons water through sieves

Colouration: Dirty white

Breeding: Thousands of eggs are spawned and develop into planktonic larvae

Max size: 60mm
