Fun Fact: A common shoaling fish, found in waters as deep as 100m.

Introduction: Cape salmon (Atractoscion aequidens) are also known as geelbek or teraglin. They are a common shoaling fish, found in deep waters as deep as 100m. Old shipwrecks seem to attract this fish.

Distribution: Throughout Namibian waters from the Kunene River mouth south through Möwe Bay, Terrace Bay, Torra Bay, Henties Bay and Jakkalsputz, Swakopmund and Walvis Bay, Sandwich Harbour and Luderitz.

Diet: Craves great quantities of surface baitfish such as maasbanker, mackerel and pilchard.

Colouration: Bluish to coppery above and white below. The fins are a translucent grey. The mouth and inner gill covers are yellow.

Breeding: Spawns in warmer waters

Max size: 120cm. Max weight: 11kg
