Blacktail

Introduction: The blacktail (Diplodus sargus) is a very commonly caught fish by many Namibian anglers and fisherman and is a common catch on angling safaris in Namibia. Blacktail is the most common name by which this fish goes by, however it is also referred to as the Dassie and world wide as white bream. The blacktail is primarily an inshore fish species and favours turbulent and rough seas, heading for rocky areas from which they are often caught. Blacktail often occur in small shoals and they can tolerate all sorts of variable temperatures.

Distribution: Coastal Namibian waters including estuaries.

Diet: Prawns and sardines amongst a variety of sea food.

Colouring: A white fish with a black spot just before the tail starts.

Size: Adults can reach 45cm long and weigh as much as 3kg.
