Long tentacled anemone

Fun Fact: Shells stick to the large sticky pads on the column of this anemone.

Introduction: Shells and gravel stick to the large sticky pads on the column of long-tentacled anemones (Anthopleura michaelseni). This is due in part to their habit of being partially buried in sand in rock crevices and sandy pools from mid-shore downwards.

Distribution: The mouth of the Orange River and the lower coastal regions of the Sperrgebeit.

Colouration: Bright but dark stripes, spread out from the mouth to the 96 pink to brown tentacles. Spherules are present.

Breeding: Either sexual/body division

Max size: 70mm in diametre
