Angola winged bat

Introduction: Wing-gland bats are unique in that they can adapt to very dry conditions, especially in areas that receive a mean annual rainfall of less than 100mm. It is believed they inhabit the occasional rocky outcrops. Individuals can find refuge in crevices in these places. Not much is known about this species and they were originally described in southern Angola. The title is somewhat misleading as they are far more common along the western Atlantic Coast of Namibia where they have been caught in nets in mist in very strong winds along the Skeleton Coast. They are known as wing-gland bats because of the fat secreting (sebaceous) glands in the centre of each wing membrane.

Diet: Sand dune dwelling insects

Colouring: Drab-grey with a tinge of yellow with off-white undersides.
