Fun Fact: The large and robust looking Opistophthalmus carinatus are equipped with a powerful set of pincers.

Introduction: The large and robust looking Opistophthalmus carinatus are equipped with a powerful set of pincers. Look for loose soil at the side of large stones and boulders to indicate the entrance to a burrow as well as on open ground. Other micro habitats include under dead Kalahari vegetation or under the bark of fallen trees.
Distribution: Throughout Namibia including Etosha National Park, Spitzkoppe, Brandberg Mountains, Namib and Kalahari Deserts, Fish River Canyon and all coastal and riverine extremities.
Diet: Insects such as spiders, earthworms and millipedes. Will also take small reptiles and frogs.
Colouration: Dark orange-brown.
Breeding: Secures females with their elongated pincers. Litter sizes average around 25.
Maximum size: 110mm.
