Opistophthalmus adustus

Introduction: Opistophthalmus adustus dig multi-directional burrows in sandy soils. As they are 75cm deep, observation can at times be difficult.
Distribution: Southern Namibia from the Orange River, Rosh Pinah and Fish River Canyon ranging north as far north as the Tirasberg Mountains.
Diet: Spiders, insects and smaller scorpions.
Colouration: Dark body with light ridges and orange-brown flanks, legs and pincers. The sting and pincers are blackened at the edges.
Breeding: Males have elongated pincers, an advantage when grasping out for females. Litters of up to 25 occur.
Maximum size: 110mm.
