Indian red scorpion

Introduction: Hottentotta arenaceus construct burrows up to 10cm deep, usually at the base of bushes in sandy soil. Males wander around at night and take refuge under bushes when the sun rises. Females usually stay under the cover of vegetation.
Distribution: Common in southern central Namibia such as Fish River Canyon, Helmeringhausen, Keetmanshoop, Quiver Tree Forest extending north as far as Mariental.
Diet: Lies in wait for insects and spiders on vegetation or forages on bushes.
Colouration: Overall pale orange-yellow, although the further south the slightly darker the colour.
Breeding: Young scorpions are born live with an average litter size of 12.
Maximum size: 43mm.
