Fun Fact: Tropical Threadtails inhabit rivers and are a rare species in Namibia.

Introduction: Tropical Threadtails (Elattoneura cellularis) inhabit rivers and are a rare species in Namibia. The Latin cellula means 'cell' and aris 'pertaining to' a reference to the features of the hindwings.

Distribution: Impalila Island at the Chobe River rapids.

Colouration: Similar to the Common Threadtail. Black with a bluish-grey coating on the head and back of the thorax. Bright blue eyes. Females are pale brown with a distinct cream-coloured stripe on the side of the thorax.

Breeding: Not known.

Flight season: Insufficient data.

Conservation: Rare but not threatened.
