Crenigomphus hartmanni
Fun Fact: Hartmann's Hooktail inhabits streams, rivers and the well-vegetated margins of pools.

Introduction: Hartmann's Hooktail (Crenigomphus hartmanni) inhabits streams, rivers and the well-vegetated margins of pools. Named after the German Karl Hartmann who collected a type female specimen in 1897.

Distribution: The Orange River downstream from Noordoewer.

Colouration: Predominately yellow with contrasting brown markings. The upper appendages are slightly longer than the lower in males.

Breeding: Larvae occur in large numbers and exuvia can be found along the river margins.

Flight season: December.

Max size: Between 40 to 50mm.

Conservation: Not threatened.
