Fun Fact: Common Thorntails can be observed in certain lakes and dams and sections of perennial rivers.

Introduction: Common Thorntails (Ceratogomphus pictus) can be observed in certain lakes and dams and sections of perennial rivers.

Distribution: Restricted to central and southern parts of the country. Observed at Avis, Oanab, Hardap and Naute Dams.

Colouration: Yellow with contrasting black markings, green eyes and white markings on the abdomen.

Breeding: Females at water are rare appearing for only a few seconds before being gripped and taken away by males.

Flight season: December to April.

Max size: 50mm.

Conservation: Not threatened.
