Fun Fact: Little is know of the behaviour and ecology of the Black Sprite.

Introduction: Little is know of the behaviour and ecology of the Black Sprite (Pseudagrion commoniae nigerrimum). The deep black colouring differentiates the Black Sprite from other members of this genus. Believed to be a riverine species.

Distribution: Rundu boasts the only recorded sighting way back in January 1966.

Colouration: Males have very dark bodies. Black thorax, upper eyes and head and abdomen. Lower eyes are red.

Breeding: Larval development can last up to 60 days.

Flight season: December to March.

Conservation: Not threatened.
