Introduction: Black Emperors (Anax tristis) occur mostly in temporary waters, rain and floodplains in the north and from farm dams in the south.
Distribution: From the Kunene River to Etosha National Park and on to the Waterberg but is most common in the Caprivi Strip.
Colouration: Green eyes and thorax, black abdomen with yellow spots. Males have a longer abdomen than females.
Breeding: Breeds in temporary waters.
Flight season: November to March.
Max size: 120mm. Wingspan: Up to 135mm.
Conservation: Not threatened.
