Broad barred citharin

Introduction: The broad-barred citharin (Nannocharax macropterus) is a small freshwater fish belonging to the family Characidae. It is known for its schooling behaviour and is often found in shallow waters with dense vegetation.

Distribution: Found in various regions of Namibia, particularly in slow-moving rivers, streams, and flooded areas.

Diet: Primarily feeds on small invertebrates and insects found near the water's surface.

Colouring: Translucent body with a distinct dark blotch behind the gill cover and another blotch at the base of the tail.

Breeding: Breeds during the rainy season, with the female scattering her eggs among aquatic plants.

Size: Grows up to 5 cm in length.
