Introduction: White-throated swallows (Hirundo albigularis) can be found in a wide variety of habitats often near water bodies with open grassland and mountain regions. They often perch on posts or stumps, especially over water singly or in pairs. Their presence is increased in areas associated with high rainfall.

Distribution: Lower Kunene River, Epupa Falls in Kaokoland, Caprivi Strip, Etosha National Park, Skeleton Coast, Orange River, Fish River Canyon and Hardap Dam.

Diet: Eats airborne insects such as flies, beetles and wasps by flying low over the ground or water.

Description: Often confused with the wire-tailed swallow which has much longer tail streamers.

Breeding: A mud pellet cup lined with fine grass, hair and feathers is attached to a rock face, bridge or large culvert where 2 to 5 eggs are laid between August and March.

Size: 15cm.

Weight: 22g
