Introduction: Of the 4 subspecies of Karoo long-billed lark (Certhilauda subcoronata), 2 can be observed in Namibia. Their main habitat range is semi-arid dwarf shrubland and rocky ridges and stony plains with grassy shrubland.spitzkoppe

Distribution: From central Namibia south throughout succulent Karoo to the Orange River. Fairly common around the Erongo Mountains, Spitzkoppe, Windhoek and the Namib Rand Nature Reserve.
Diet: Searches at the base of plants, turning over stones for grasshoppers, ants, beetles, termites and spiders. Also takes seeds of shrubs and some fruits.

Description: Subcoronata refers to the pale supercilium, which is above the eye and below the crown.
Breeding: Females lay 2 or 3 eggs from January to April in a tidy twig and root cup.

Size: 20cm.

Weight: 40g.
