Great reed warbler

Introduction: As one might expect, great reed-warblers (Acrocephalus arundinaceus) are widespread in reeds. Herbaceous vegetation, dense bushes and thickets, often far from water, are also well-visited.

Distribution: Widespread but scattered in central and northern Namibia, as well as the Zambezi Region (formerly the Caprivi Strip).
Diet: Eats butterflies, grasshoppers, mayflies and dragonflies, small frogs, spiders snails and berries.

Description: A large, thrush-like warbler with a strong bill, with plain, olive-brown upper parts, a dark brown tail and a finely brownish-streaked upper body. Has a slow but loud, low-pitched song that cackles and crackles repetitively.
Breeding: Extralimital.

Size: 20cm.

Weight: Up to 40g.
