Introduction: Cape turtle doves (Streptopelia capicola) can be found in any woodland, farmlands, parks, gardens and any closed or open savannah. Large flocks can be seen at desert waterholes. Eaten by crocs, pythons, wild cats, Black-backed jackals, genets and a selection of storks, eagles and owls.
Distribution: Common throughout Namibia less for southern Namib Desert.
Diet: Eats dry seeds of grasses, maize, sorghum, oats.
Description: Often confused with larger red-eyed doves and African mourning dove.
Breeding: 1 or 2 eggs are laid in a thin twig affair lined with grass and rootlets. Incubation periods are around 14 days.
Size: 27cm.
Weight: 150g.
