Cursorius temminckii
Fun Fact: Temminck's courser is named after the Dutch ornithologist Coenraad Jacob Temminck.

Introduction: Temminck's courser (Cursorius temminckii) is named after the Dutch ornithologist Coenraad Jacob Temminck (1778-1858), noted for describing many new species of bird sent from various Dutch colonies.

Distribution: Throughout northern and central Namibia, but absent from the southern regions of the country including most of the Namib Desert.

Diet: Picks mostly insects from the ground or by digging with the bill.

Description: Long decurved bill, sandy brown upper parts with white legs.

Breeding: 1 or 2 eggs are laid on the bare ground in the middle to the end of the dry season.

Size: 20cm.

Weight: 70g.
