Introduction: The spotted thick-knee (Burhinus capensis) favours stony, open habitats such as grassland and savannah, hills and semi-desert. They are active mostly at night, roosting in grassy areas.
Distribution: Widespread throughout Namibia less for the driest parts of the Namib Desert.
Diet: Mainly insects especially beetles and termites.
Description: Large, long-legged wader with characteristic large eyes. Sings mainly at night.
Breeding: Between 1 and 3 eggs are laid between September and February in a shallow scrape.
Size: 43cm.
Weight: Up to 620g.
