Fun Fact: Common greenshanks potter around borders of dams and ponds, short grassland, natural pans, beaches, estuaries and lagoons.

Introduction: Common greenshanks (Tringa nebularia) potter around borders of dams and ponds, short grassland, natural pans, beaches, estuaries and lagoons. Sightings of them roosting by standing in shallow water are common.

Distribution: Widespread throughout Namibia especially the central regions, northern coastal Skeleton Park, Swakopmund and Walvis Bay, Etosha National Park, Orange River, Caprivi Strip.

Diet: Solitary foragers along the water's edge by day following the tidal patterns for fish fry, tadpoles and insects, small crabs, shrimps and sand prawns.

Description: Large wader often confused with the small marsh sandpiper. Nebularis refers to their 'cloudy, blended colours' of the upperparts colouration.

Breeding: Extralimital.

Size: 32cm.

Weight: 170g.

Wingspan: 70cm.
