Fun Fact: Collared pratincoles inhabit meadows, sandbanks, grassy floodplains, ploughed fields, mudflats near water.

Introduction: Collared pratincoles (Glareola pratincola) inhabit meadows, sandbanks, grassy floodplains, ploughed fields, mudflats near water including coastal lakes, large rivers, dams and pans.

Distribution: Etosha National Park, Caprivi, Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve.

Diet: Eats mainly insects especially locusts and grasshoppers, beetles, crickets, dragonflies, termites, butterflies, moths and spiders.

Description: Short black to red-brown feet and legs with a reddish tinge. Upper parts are predominately dark olive-brown.

Breeding: Usually 1 or 2 eggs are laid in a shallow depression such as an animal's footprint, on top of dead vegetation or in gravel between small rocks.

Size: 25cm.

Weight: 80g.
