Introduction: Unlike many other species of this family, Caspian plovers (Charadrius asiaticus) prefer dry-land habitats usually far from water, such as short grasslands, open vegetated plains and at times ploughed fields.
Distribution: Etosha National Park, Caprivi, Swakopmund and central Namibia.

Diet: Forages by sight during the day and night for insects attracted to cow-dung. Eats beetles, termites and grasshoppers, as well as grass seeds and small snails.

Description: Medium-sized plover with a sandy brown nape, mantle, back and rump.

Breeding: Extralimital.

Size: 20cm.

Weight: 70g.

Wingspan: 60cm.
