Fun Fact: Bar-tailed godwits originate from Lapland and mainly congregate on the west coast of Namibia.

Introduction: Bar-tailed godwits (Limosa lapponica) originate from Lapland and mainly congregate on the west coast of Namibia, in and around estuaries, sheltered bays and coastal lagoons.

Distribution: Swakopmund, Walvis Bay, Luderitz, Etosha National Park, Kwando River and Kunene River estuary.

Diet: Molluscs and crustaceans.

Description: Head and necks are a 'rich chestnut'. Often confused with black-tailed godwit which has longer legs and neck.

Breeding: Bar-tailed godwits breed close to the fringes of the Arctic Ocean.

Size: 40cm.

Weight: 240g.
