Radio & TV

Radio & TV

The national broadcaster is called the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation.

The national broadcaster is called the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation, and they operate the main Namibian Television channel as well as several local language radio stations (Kanaal 7, Radiowave, Kosmos, 99FM, Fresh FM and NBC Radio Station).  Radio reception can vary once you leave the main towns, so make sure to update your Ipod and Spotify for those long distances.

The good news for TV addicts is that the South African based satellite channels offered by DsTV are widely available. Sports fans need not worry as sport is a religion in Namibia and television coverage of any major sporting event (even if it is American) is pretty much guaranteed.

Usually larger guest houses, pensions & hotels in Namibia offer TV's in their rooms - often these only offer a cut down version on the standard satellite channels, with only 5 or 6 choices available.

"My father hated radio and could not wait for television to be invented so he could hate that too.", Peter De Vries
