As of today, the price of petrol in Namibia has increased by N$ 2.00 per litre. Diesel is N$ 3.00 more expensive per litre. The Ministry of Industries, Mining and Energy (MIME) attributed the price hikes to rising transport costs and an unfavourable exchange rate against the US dollar.
According to a statement from MIME, the following prices per litre apply for the month of November 2026:
Petrol (ULP 95) – N$ 28.58,
Diesel (50 ppm) – N$ 30.86,
Diesel (10 ppm) – N$ 30.96 (1.67 euros; amount at current exchange rate; 1 N$ = 1 ZAR).
These prices refer to fuel stations in Walvis Bay. The main fuel depots are located in the port city. At petrol stations in inland towns, prices are higher, depending on the additional transport costs incurred via rail or tanker truck.
MIME has increased the price of petrol by more than 7.5 percent and the price of diesel by over 10.7 percent. However, according to the statement, these new prices do not fully cover the increased costs. The National Energy Fund (NEF) is expected to contribute approximately N$ 384 million in November to help cushion the impact of the price hikes.
For tourists visiting from Europe, refuelling in Namibia remains to feel like taking a break from prices back home. In Germany, the current average price is 2.06 euros per litre for petrol and 2.28 euros for diesel. Prices are slightly lower in Italy (2.00 / 2.24), higher in France (2.10 / 2.37), and significantly higher in the Netherlands (2.33 / 2.38).
Namibia finds itself on the more affordable side also when compared to its neighbours. According to MIME, petrol and diesel prices in South Africa during October 2026 were 30.25 and 33.29 Rand (= N$), respectively.
Botswana (23.74 / 28.56 - converted into N$) and Zambia (26.35 / 27.87 N$) were slightly cheaper. Zimbabwe (33.93 / 33.76 N$) was significantly more expensive.
No fuel shortage in Namibia
Fuel prices in Namibia always take effect at 00:00 on the first Wednesday of each month. Following the announcement of the price increases on Monday, queues formed at petrol stations across the country as many drivers rushed to fill their tanks at the lower, pre-hike prices.
In some locations, petrol or diesel supplies may have temporarily run out. One example seemed to be Sesfontein in northwestern Namibia, as reports on social media suggested. However, MIME had already given assurances that the fuel supply in Namibia would remain secure. It urged consumers to refrain from panic buying.
