The Northern Adventure is a 7 day camping / accommodated tour designed to give a short, but comprehensive safari around the main highlights of northern and central Namibia. This tour combines wildlife, cultural visits, San paintings and a trip to the coast!

While on the Northern Namibia adventure safari you will get close-up-and personal with the Big Cats, leopard, cheetah & lion at Okonjima. Enjoy some of the best wildlife viewing & photography in the amazing Etosha Park. Learn of the tribal structures, religions and daily life of the only traditionally functioning Himba community outside the far north Kaokoland region of Namibia. Visit a range of San rock art. And finally enjoy Namibia's premier seaside town, Swakopmund on the Skeleton Coast.

- The Northern Adventure Safari is run as a camping tour however, for a supplement an upgrade can be made to turn this into an accommodated safari. Enquire upon booking as this is subject to availability.

Day 1

Okonjima Bush Camp

Windhoek - Okonjima

Adventurers will be collected from their accommodation in Windhoek between 08h30 - 09h00. The tour first heads north, stopping at small towns along the way, including Okahandja, (The Garden Town of Namibia) with time to visit Namibia's largest woodcarvers market. The market is operated on a local co-operative basis and is one of the best places to shop for truly Namibian souvenirs and curios. Continuing north and driving through mainly farmland, the tour is scheduled to arrive at Okonjima's Omboroko campsite ... mid-afternoon, with time to set up camp and to relax before heading out for the afternoon's activities. The lodge is home to The AfriCat Foundation, a non-profit organization, committed to the long-term conservation of Namibia's large carnivores, notably cheetahs and leopards. This afternoon you will be taken on a guided tour to meet some of the cheetah which are going through the rehabilitation programme. Many of these animals have been orphaned or caught traps set by farmers and the programme is designed to prepare them to be released back into the wild.

Day 2


Etosha Park

An early start and continuing north the safari passes through some small towns, making short stops for fresh supplies and fuel. Today's destination it eastern Etosha, and the camp of Namutoni. Arriving in time for lunch allows time to relax before heading into the park during the cool of the late afternoon for a first game drive.

Day 3


Etosha Park

An early start to benefit from a full day's game driving, heading east on the drive towards Halali Camp, situated in the middle of the park. Along the way there are several waterholes to visit and splendid views of the massive Etosha Pan. The game viewing along this route is usually excellent. The lunch time stop is at Halali, with time for a leisurely lunch, dip in the pool or a visit to see who's taking a drink at the waterhole. ... The game driving continues down to Okaukuejo, famous for its waterhole, quite rightly described as one of the 'best game viewing opportunities in Southern Africa.' Black rhino, elephant, lion and numerous species of antelope pass by. After your evening meal there are still more chances to see Etosha's big game at the floodlit waterhole, situated on the boundary of the camp it is easily reachable within a minute or two on foot.

Day 4

Etosha - Grootberg

Leaving Etosha the Northern Adventure begins to journey south with a relatively short drive to the small town of Kamanjab. Within this area the safari visits a Himba Village - the only traditionally functioning Himba community outside the far north Kaokoland region of Namibia These tribes-people have migrated here, lifestyle and customs intact, and are following their traditional way-of-life in their village on a farm, the exact location of the site varies as the Himba occasionally roam to a new ... location. We will learn about marriage customs, traditional food and the mysteries of the “Holy Fire” religion. From here it is a short drive on to Hoada Community Campsite which is located among beautiful granite hills and mopane trees. To add an eco-friendly touch, the hot water system works in combination with the barbecue area, therefore whilst your meal is being prepared, your water will be warmed up for your shower!

Day 5

Twyfelfontein Country Lodge

Grootberg - Twyfelfontein

Today the safari head through one of the most beautiful desert regions in Namibia, Damaraland. We drive west via the Grootberg Pass and then take a detour to visit the ancient Bushman rock engravings at Twyfelfontein. Here a local guide is employed to conduct a short guided tour before camp is set up for the night.

Day 6

Swakopmund Guest House

Twyfelfontein - Swakopmund

Today the Northern Adventure Safari heads deeper into the Namib Desert and passes Namibia’s highest mountain, The Brandberg. Stopping at the small town of Uis, an old mining town, and one of the best places to buy the semi-precious stones for which Namibia is famous. Here, rough Amethyst, Tourmaline etc can be found at bargain prices. From Uis the safari turns directly west and crosses gravel plains en-route to the Atlantic Ocean and the Skeleton Coast. Meeting the ocean at Henties ... Bay, it is a short trip north along the coast to the seal colony at Cape Cross. At certain times of the year as many as 100,000 Cape Fur seals congregate. The next destination, Swakopmund, is south of here following the Skeleton Coast into Namibia's premier seaside town. Arrival is scheduled for the late allowing time to explore the town on foot before sunset. Tonight there is a chance to sample one of the excellent restaurants, the seafood in Swakopmund is superb and your guide will offer to organise a group meal in a local restaurant for this evening. Participation is recommended but by no means required. Dinner this evening is on own account.

Day 7

Swakopmund - Windhoek

Drive time back to Windhoek is around 5 hours, departing after lunch. The morning is available for free leisure time in and around the beaches, shops and town's amenities. There is also a very good museum and the Namibian National Marine Aquarium is located in Swakopmund. There are many activities available in Swakopmund: dune-boarding, scenic flights over the desert and Skeleton Coast, skydiving and a whole lot more, availability on these excursions is limited and if you would like to ... guarantee participation we recommend booking this at the same time as you book the safari. After the morning in Swakopmund, we have lunch and then drive back to Windhoek, arriving about 17h30.
