The Reel Deal - Fishing In The Zambezi Region

10 Sep 2021

By Annelien Murray

Just imagine... The flitting flocks of migrating Carmine Bee-eaters in the sky. The call of an African Fish Eagle. The crackling campfire with the brightest stars above. Freedom far away from the crowds. Adventure at your fingertips. Your first catch between your hands. The invigorating pulse of the Zambezi - this is where reel legends go.

The rivers of Namibia's northern border and all their tributaries are well known as the life-giving veins of the north of Namibia, and of her neighbouring countries. 500 kilometres long and only 32 kilometres wide, this horizontal strip finally opens at its furthest point into the shape of a rough triangle where four countries meet: Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana. It's the only quadripoint in the world.

Most importantly, it's where you'll meet yourself.

Fishing packages by Gondwana Collection Namibia

"I don't go fishing to escape my life. I go fishing to live my life."

Packages are tailor-made for the avid fishermen - spend the whole day on the river with an experienced guide and the prospect of a tigerfish, nembwe, or different species of tilapia (humpback, three-spot and redbreast) on the hook. All fishing takes place on a catch-and-release basis.

Do you need a fishing licence for the feisty, highly-prized tigerfish? Get it with us.

But the catch of the day isn't the only selling point of our fishing packages.

This offer is something the whole family could fall for hook, line and sinker... If they're not into fishing, you have plenty of other angles to work from, while you go angling on a boat all day. Relaxing days await at the lodge, campsite or in the self-catering tents in the shade of high trees. Go swimming in the pool, while children can also burn some energy on the jungle gym... Don't miss out on a safari, guided walks, or a trip to the world-famous Victoria Falls.

You have 3 different adventure bases to choose from for a duration of either 3 or 5 nights. Activities vary from lodge to lodge.

Hakusembe River Lodge is 16 km west of Rundu and is located before the strip. It's a lush green oasis on the banks of the Okavango River. Absorb river peace from one of the bungalows (twin, triple, 7-bed or the villa). Hop aboard the Hakusembe River Queen for a sunset safari, stroll to the cultural village or just relax on the deck listening to the spectacular symphony of feathered friends.

Experience Namushasha River Lodge located 24 km south of Kongola on the C49. This Zambezi kingdom offers 24 chalets (twin, triple, family) dotted along the leafy riverbank. Follow in the tracks of elephant giants and more in Bwabwata National Park and glide through wild waterways on a boat cruise. River views accompany your nightly dining experiences with the restaurant's high thatched roof and open sides.

Enjoy a relaxing stay underneath a canopy of green at Zambezi Mubala Camp. Eight self-catering safari tents (four beds each) with en-suite bathrooms provide plenty of comfort. Cook your own dinner on the fire, or enjoy cosy evening get-togethers in the restaurant and bar, where stories are exchanged and another day on the wild waters is celebrated. Join the complimentary sundowner cruise and re-adapt to the peaceful rhythm of nature. We take you where the thrill begins – to the fishing waters of the former Kalizo and Island View Lodges. Sunset cruises, guided walks to the impressive bird colonies and a trip to Victoria Falls are the order of the day.

While you cast your line, these magical places will cast a spell of awe-struck wonder on you. Visit www.gondwana-collection.com for full package details.
