Would you like to support a Namibian schoolchild in need and provide help that really gets there? Then the Gondwana Care Trust is the right address for you.
The Gondwana Care Trust, of the Namibian tourism company Gondwana Collection Namibia, runs a school bag project every year in which school children throughout Namibia receive sponsored stationery, food and hygiene products in a reusable bag. These bags are distributed to the children before the Christmas holidays begin so that they can start the new year with basic school supplies - and, of course, to give them a treat.
Coordinator Dgini Visser puts her heart into providing the personal touch: "Every year in September/October, schools, hostels and orphanages that we cooperate with for our project send us the lists with the names of the children. They also include gender, age, class/school year and any special needs. Many helping hands then pack each bag in November according to the information received and label them with the appropriate name and a personal greeting."
In each of the past two years, the Gondwana Care Trust has been able to bring joy to 2500 children, with almost 2400 bags distributed in 2019.
Would you like to support the project and sponsor a bag? School bags can be purchased and donated throughout the year at The Narrative Namibia online store and at all Gondwana lodges for N$250 each.
