Another name for the Karoo Gold (Rhigozum obovatum) is the Yellow Pomegranate. It prefers, hot, dry, rocky areas in deciduous woodland and vegetation associated with the Karoo. This plant can be found in southern Namibia from Aus east to the Orange River region around Warmbad.
A rather twiggy, spiny shrub, it grows small blue-green leaves with large golden-yellow trumpet-shaped flowers. It is a valuable food source and stock and game feed on the leaves, flowers and fruits of the this plant.
A variety of insects, bees and butterflies are attracted to the flowers and leaves. It requires lots of sunshine, moderate watering and is frost resistant. Flowering time is from September to November.
