Kalahari anib lodge

Kalahari Anib Lodge is located about 30 km north-east of Mariental, and is an ideal stopover on the way to Southern Namibia. The lodge is nestled in a lush green oasis under high trees, set amidst the red dunes of the Kalahari Desert. This area is notable for the green acacias and yellow grasses that grow in the red sand.

Anib means 'male bird' in the local Nama language, a people who are predominantly found in the southern regions of Namibia. Birds play an important role in their mythology.

Kalahari Anib Lodge's main building houses the reception area, which also doubles up as a curio shop. It is well-stocked with an array of Namibian arts and crafts, locally produced cosmetics, toiletries, jewelry, clothing and ornaments.

There is also a restaurant, bar, verandah and the lodge has two swimming pools. There are both indoor and outdoor dining areas.

Breakfast is served in a buffet style with a variety of fruits, cereals, toast and preserves as well as fresh-baked bread and a cooked breakfast. Fruit juices, tea and coffee are also available.

Lunch is usually a light meal such as a salad or sandwiches from the 'a la carte' menu. Guests can choose their dinner from a varied and delicious buffet.

Accommodation is either in one of the 32 standard rooms or 9 comfort rooms.

Animals including springbok, gemsbok and ostrich can be found around the lodge. Jackal, hare and porcupine inhabit the dunes and dune valleys of the Kalahari Desert as well. The area is also home to the Kori Bustard, the largest flying bird of all, and huge colonies of weaver birds are resident in the lodge's grounds.

29 Jul 2015

Maybe the least exciting place on our trip. Lodge was fine, but not much to do. I had seen there were signed walks nearby, but they were not very special.

nice place... with a price to pay ! walking trails : good idea and animals can easily be watched; --- : a shame : motorized paragliding !!! noisy and stupid in my opinion.

Nice place - we enjoyed the sundowner game drive. The staff sang for the guests in the evening - and the impression we had was that they enjoyed their job! Thank you so much!

2 May 2013

Friendly big lodge with nice pool and outside dining area. Good selection of curios at the shop. If you want to escape the tourist crowd, many of them Germans, look for a different place.

Welcome, Louise

23 Apr 2017

Luxury which ended our holiday. 3 camp site places which we loved and animals all around. Access to the lodge if you wanted it, we didn't beyond a cooling beer. A lovely way to end the holiday.

Duvenhage, Johan

21 Jun 2015

Only 3 campsites, all quite a distance apart so lots of privacy. Each campsite has its own ablutions. Several walking trails which will take you quite close to some of the animals on the property.

Foulds, Adrian

1 Aug 2016

Excellent accomodation. Game drive guide Ndumba was excellent and very informative and excellent with keeping the children interested. The star gazing was particularly fabulous the night we stayed.

Poke, Fiona

13 Jun 2011

Great lodge but recommend it as a stopover as there is not much to do here. But if you havent seen many animals before, the game drive is a good experience. Staff are fabulous as are the facilities.

Gatwood, Colin

20 Nov 2011

Another great venue- again we'd ahve liked to stay here longer and explore more. Helpful; friendly and great room. No tea/ coffee/ kettle, which we'd have liked but they said they'd stopped doing this.

Kidd, Tara

27 Jul 2009

very special place to camp - campsites literally miles from anyone else, very private but lovely smart bathrooms attached, facilities and bar etc very lovely, really special place, definitely recommend

Vereerstraeten, Yannick

25 Jun 2013

Very nice accommodation. We particularly liked the waterhole, the walking trails & the sundowner drive in the red dunes. However, the diner is overpriced... and there is no alternative in the surroundings!

Falvey, Angela

12 Apr 2018

Absolutely loved this place. Designed really well, modern and every facility. Great guide on the sundowner (best bar of all sundowner tours). Food was also top notch, it was a great last night to the holiday.

Gray, Robert

13 Jul 2017

Enjoyable place to stay with excellent facilities and pleasant staff. Doing the walk was worthwhile as we saw basically all of the wildlife they have there by doing that, rather than paying for a safari drive.

Lavizzari, Guido

7 Jul 2013

Quite good however we arrived late to get PM excursion, so can`t comment it. Quality of reastaurant is good even if staff sometimes seems to be lost and confused moving around table all together ! But it`s fun !

Verheij, Felix

13 Nov 2013

The campsite was ok, but nothing special. We enjoyed some of the lodge facilities (swimming pool, etc), but could have done without. Unfortunately, just a necessary stop-over on the way from Fish River to Windhoek.

Pycroft, Liz

27 Aug 2015

A nice lodge but needs upgrading. The campsites are odd, there are only three pitches which each incorporate a hard standing, shower and toilet, they are very utilitarian and not too pretty. But the landscape is spectacular. 6/10

Buee, Christophe

20 Nov 2011

02 oct 2011 Friendly and welcoming staff. Nice location with a pool. Campsite with its own toilet facilities, braai, table and benches and power point. Good dinner and buffet breakfast at the lodge. (The coldest night we spent.)

Pipitone, Raffaella

12 Sep 2011

I didn`t like so much this location full to crowded with room (not lodge) with no privacy. to spend no more of one night if there is no other possibile accomodation. to many bus full of german people in transit to Namibia or Windoek

Stansfeld, Peter & Anne

5 Nov 2015

Nice, comfortable rooms. The food was good & it catered well for gluten free including making gluten free bread. A really nice evening game drive with sundowners . Lots of self guided walks which we didn`t have time to take advantage of.

Klein, Shirley

23 Sep 2014

This was definitely the best camp site we stayed at. There were only 3 sites but each one had a covered cemented area and its own toilet and shower. The facilities at the lodge were very good and the staff exceptionally friendly and welcoming.

Berger, Celine

19 Sep 2011

we thought that we could diner at the lodge but it was full; they were nice and arranged for us some diner bag as we did not have our own barbecue but we would appreciate to know that teh restaurant is not always available for campsite personns

Schaller, Patrick

1 Nov 2016

To recommand; apartement good & clean; luxurious; great pool Dinner: a wide variety of different food (but I don't understand why they tried to imitate typical european meals as Lasagne, Stroganoff and Schnitzel. None of these meats tasted well :-( )

Kershaw, Dianne & Robert

7 Jul 2009

this was fine. We were pretty stressed there as we were still without bags so we did not do any of the activities (we planned to do one of the drives). The staff were also very helpful as we had to find a local doctor. The place is basic but comfortable.

Sincup, John

3 Jun 2013

Although used as a night stop for may tour groups we found it to be welcoming and friendly, ready to assist and although very busy managed to provide a good service and a pleasant evening meal. Comfortable rooms with aircon to combat the heat. Exceeded expectations.

Auge, Michael

22 Dec 2015

The first stop on our trip through Namibia was one of our favourites. The campsite was excellent (one of the best we had) and the hiking trails were fabulous. We saw all sorts of different animals and had the entire trail to ourselves. It was the perfect start to our Namibian adventures.

Wyness,hilary

19 May 2016

From the minute we arrived we were made to feel very welcome by the staff. The room was really nice and the food very good. Enjoyed our stay here immensely. We loved the modern buildings and the different materials used. My husband preferred this Lodge to Sossus Dune Lodge - that's praise.

Waddington, Doreen

14 May 2013

This was a great suggestion. The friendly staff is one of it`'s greatest assets. The accommodation was comfortable and the lodge itself interesting and and an oasis that we enjoyed. We did the game drive which we enjoyed and the pictures taken at sunset when we were served drinks, came out well.
