Kwessi dunes - natural selection

WHEN IS A GOOD TIME TO GO?

Kwessi Dunes opened on the 1 March 2020 and is surrounded by hyper arid desert and is great all year round (and the air conditioning will keep you cool!) In the dry winter months of April to October, the desert is pleasant and dry (with chilly mornings), whilst November to March brings thunderstorms and hotter temperatures.

HOW DO I GET THERE?

There are direct flights to Windhoek from Cape Town, Johannesburg, Frankfurt, Addis Ababa and Doha. Fly to Windhoek and then switch to a light aircraft to fly to our airstrip in the Namib Rand. Alternatively, you may drive and the lodge is between 5 and 6 hours’ drive from Swakopmund or 4 and 5 hours’ drive from Windhoek. Self-drive directions are available.

WHERE WILL I STAY?

There are 12 thatch-and-canvas rooms at Kwessi

10 twin/doubles

2 family units with 1 kingsize bed and 2 single beds (NB the two bedrooms in each family unit share a bathroom).

All are air-conditioned and have an ensuite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers and a shaded veranda at the front.

Each room also has a separate ‘star gazer’ room at the back, which is completely open to the skies for the ultimate celestial experience.

Our wonderful chefs have a reputation for good, wholesome meals.

WHAT ARE THE FACILITIES?

At the heart of the lodge is a cool and comfortable main area. With high thatched ceilings, a well-stocked bar, small library area and plenty of sofas and armchairs, it’s the perfect spot to relax, any time of day. Outside, there is a shaded veranda with more seating and a large fire pit area and a swimming pool – ideal for the Namibian heat.
