Greenfire Desert Lodge offers relaxation, remoteness and game viewing (by day and night) for self-drive tourists in Namibia. The lodge is placed alongside a private 20,000ha wilderness reserve which forms part of the much larger NamibRand Nature Reserve. Tranquility and comfortable accommodation are rated highly here and many guests enjoy a stay of several days.
Greenfire Desert Lodge also provides the perfect stopover between the dunes at Sossusvlei (the lodge is often used as a base from which to visit the dunes) and further afield to Fish River Canyon and coastal Luderitz. Although 'just' off the beaten track, you can access Greenfire by 2x4 sedan car as well as a 4x4 rental vehicle.
Today many species of game can be observed here including giraffe, oryx, mountain and plains zebra, red hartebeest, Cape fox, springbok, spotted hyena and the African wild cat. Kudu, baboon, leopard and klipspringer can be found in the more rocky regions of the reserve. Many reptiles species thrive throughout and the rich variety of birds which number over 100 species are a draw-card for many.
All of the main buildings and rooms at Greenfire Desert Lodge are built from local stone. Warmth in the winter and cool temperatures in the summer are assured. Freshly prepared meals are served on the terrace or the inside dining area, weather permitting. After a day's activities or long, dusty drive guests can jump into the sparkling pool to escape the hot Namibian sunshine. Solar power is used for electricity throughout.
Guests stay in 6 spacious well-appointed rooms each with an en-suite bathroom. The west facing views of the surrounding desert add to that feeling of seclusion.
During activities you will be accompanied on guides trips by the lodges' ranger, who has an excellent knowledge of all things desert-adapted flora and fauna on the reserve. This includes resident and some migratory species.
Walking: The opportunity to take a game walk around the reserve offers the opportunity to see game and plants closer up than in a vehicle.
Game Drives: Cruise around the desert in open-sided vehicle during the day and/or at night. Your guide/ranger knows all the animal 'hot spots' and can lead you to a respectable and safe distance to observe and photograph mammals, birds and the beautiful scenery.
Ballooning over Sossusvlei: Drift over the dune fields at Sossusvlei and enjoy a champagne breakfast wherever the wind takes you.
Scenic Flights: Light aircraft regularly depart on scenic flights over Sossusvlei and its surroundings.
