Anderssons camp

Andersson's Camp at Ongave is located 8kms inside the private Ongava Game Reserve. The close proximity to Etosha Park's western gate is also a major drawcard, especially for vistors who wish to game view around both of these excellent wildlife destinations. Andersson's Camps' boundaries are completely fenced which prevents large animals and predators from wandering through, making it relatively safe for guests with children. Other highlights inside the camp include a floodlit waterhole and an excellent hide.

This camp is beautifully set against the backdrop of a low range of dolomite hills, a feature that provides relief to the otherwise flat surrounding area. Good populations of a variety of Namibian wildlife exist here, this includes both black and white rhino, roaming the surrounding plains and dominant mopane woodland within the reserve. Populations of the endemic Anchieta's dwarf python, striped tree squirrel and a localized subspecies of rock hyrax can also be found here.

Central to the design of the Anderssons at Ongava is the connection to the wild, and it is most keenly felt at the waterhole and nearby underground photographic hide. Here guests have a water level view of the prolific wild and birdlife on Ongava Game Reserve, in a setting that inspires intimacy without intrusion.

A centrally positioned infinity-edge swimming pool and surrounding lounge area allows for relaxing in sheltered nooks with views of the waterhole and beyond. The social area, where guests gather for meals and to meet fellow wildlife enthusiasts, guides and naturalists, encompasses an undercover and open-air dining area, a spacious lounge and bar, a sunken observation terrace, and open fireplaces to take away the winter chill.

For specialist photographic parties, there is a dedicated photographic nook for review and editing of images. Completing the camp are features such as a uniquely Namibian curio shop, library, complimentary Wi-Fi, and connectivity to the research data developed over years of scientific endeavours on Ongava.

A short walk away with the camp’s bounds is the Ongava Research Centre where resident scientists are at home in the lab and within the Game Reserve. Guests to interface with the science and research will primarily take place at the ORC Visitor Centre, where at their leisure, guests are encouraged to meander through the self-guided exhibition area. The adjacent 36-seat auditorium is designed for interactive presentations and discussions.

The Ongava Game Reserve is dominated by mopane woodland, whilst a low range of dolomite hills, the Ondundozonanandana Range break up the otherwise flat landscape. Ondundozonanandana is Herero for 'the place where a boy took the calves.' Andersson's Camp has been named after the trader Charles John Andersson (two s's not one!). He travelled through Namibia in the 1840's and 50's. The gate into Etosha National Park, Andersson's Gate, which is south of Okaukuejo Rest camp, is also named after him!

A very special place. I liked the design of the main house + cabins, the closeness of the waterhole, the excellent guide we had.

Very good service, food, people and location. Just a pity the first night we didn't have hot water in our shower but then it was ok.

The staff was friendly and the location was great (less than 100m from the gate). The camp was a bit simple but you could see lots of animals from the reception.

This place is one of the nicest places we have ever stayed - beautiful setting. Dining room overlooking a very busy water hole. Pool area exceptional, as was service and food.

Andersson Staff is exceptional friendly and helpful at all times! The tents are basic and the camp is fenced, so childfriendly. Overpriced if you don`t qualify for SADC rates.

Enjoyed the lighted waterhole experience, seeing a rhino during dinner. The room was rustic but servicable, except that the spacing between the sink and bath is dangerously small. Service at meals could be better.

Molowny, Daniel

Really friendly hosts, game can be seen from the main terrace and they have a lovely hide to access underground to the very same waterhole and be there with the animals. Their guided game drive is awesome, lions and white rhinos a few meters from you

The Andersson Camp is located next to the Andersson gate of Etosha, which is handy. We got a very personnal service. It is a luxury camp, but it was quite cold in the tent at the end of May. There is a waterhole, but we did not see that much wildlife.

Directions

Andersson's Camp is situated close to the Andersson Gate entrance to Etosha (south of Okaukuejo) on the C38 road.
