Oyster box guest house

Oyster Box Guesthouse offers a beautiful waterside Walvis Bay Lagoon location together with a beach house atmosphere and lagoon views. The lagoon is also a major attraction for water sports enthusiasts and bird lovers. Visitors to the region sometimes prefer accommodation in Walvis Bay instead of the more traditional tourist choice of Swakopmund as many of the water-based activities begin here.

The Walvis Bay Lagoon is one of the most important wetlands in southern Africa. Its associated richness of bird and marine life led it be designated a RAMSAR site in 1995, therefore protecting its nutrient-rich deep waters. Expect to see thousands of lesser and greater flamingo and many other rare and special species including visiting migrants. This makes the lagoon a major Namibian tourist attraction in it's own right.

A section of Oyster Box Guesthouse faces the bay. Downstairs is the reception and lounge with an outside porch that doubles up as a beach bistro open to the public which serves a choice of drinks and light meals. The breakfast lounge and 2 terrace areas are located upstairs. Lunch packs can be ordered for those on day trips and activities. Light meals can be ordered in the evening but the owners/management can recommend any one of 3 known restaurants within walking distance of the guesthouse, including the nearby Raft. Similar establishments and bars are just a further 5mins drive away. After dinner enjoy a sundowner in their 'sheltered' lounge and bar.

There are 12 single or double rooms located on both the ground and upper floors. Most of the rooms upstairs have sea-views, some have balconies. En-suite bathrooms, air-conditioning/heater, DSTV hotel package and an in-room safe are standard. Wi-fi connection is available.

Lovely place to stay, just limited selection for dinner, but I understand it's just a B&B, so was happy with it.

Simple and unpretentious, good rooms. Well placed, and lovely position overlooking the lagoon. Food unexceptional.

Had a very nice dinner at The Raft across the street from the Guesthouse. Almost froze to death on the 200m walk back due to the strong sea breeze...

Baie netjies plek ons het net hier `n probleem met `n verstopte drain in die stort gehad ons kon die eerste aand nie die wasbak of stort gebruik nie, dit was nogal ongerieflik maar die probleem is die volgende dag uit gesoteer.

A perfect place to stay in Walvis Bay. Flamingo`s posing on the beach across the road for me to photograph. A very brief walk to the Raft Restaurant for dinner situated on a pier over the water. I could see it from my hotel room.

Good breakfast but one of the few places where the staff didn`t really want to interact with their guests. Room without a view which was disappointing. Plenty of space including a whole kitchen area but no kettle or pans no coffee, no tea, no fridge so we couldn`t even use it. Shame!
