Day 1: Windhoek - Etosha Park
Depart from Eros Airport in Windhoek on your charter flight to the Etosha National Park. From the Mokuti airstrip you transfer to the luxury Onguma Tented camp. The Camp is only eight kilometers from the Von Lindquist Gate on the eastern outskirts of the Etosha National Park. Originally part of the greater Etosha Game Reserve, Onguma is one of Namibia's best-kept secrets. Join an afternoon activity on the reserve.
The Onguma reserve covers an area of 20 000ha and incorporates ecological substrata such as savannah, bushveld, omuramba and dry pan. Age-old and well-worn migration routes, once used by elephant and buffalo wander through Onguma's three dry riverbeds. The reserve boasts over thirty different animal species. Plains game roam freely on the reserve and predators although not easy to spot are nevertheless common residents of the area. Onguma also became part of an innovative custodianship project relating to the black rhino. Six black rhino were darted in Etosha National park and shipped to the reserve. More than 300 bird species can be viewed at Onguma. The reserve boasts the biggest breeding colony of white-backed vultures in Namibia. During the summer months Onguma becomes a bird-watchers paradise with thousands of species migrating to wetlands created by the seasonal rains.
Meals: Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Onguma Tented Camp
Day 2: Etosha Park
After a leisurely breakfast, drive into the park for excellent game viewing. You can only go for the morning or opt to spend the whole day around the waterholes - the choice is yours. If you opt to spend the day, we can arrange for lunch packs at the lodge or you can have lunch at one of the Rest Camps inside the Park.
Etosha consists of 22,270 square km of saline desert, savannah and woodlands, and is one of the largest parks in Africa. Its definitive feature is the pan, a vast, shallow depression of approximately 5 000 km. Of the 114 mammal species found in the park, several are rare and endangered, such as the Black Rhino and Black- Faced Impala. The former is endemic to North-western Namibia and South western Angola. Etosha's current population of approximately 300 black rhinos represents one of the few growing populations in the world. The parks' elephants are reputed to be of the largest in Africa, the tallest ones measuring up to 4m at the shoulder. Their tusks are however relatively small, due to genetic defects and mineral deficiencies in their diet.
Having spent a day in the park (or just the morning - as you please) return to Onguma for a relaxed afternoon and sundowner.

Lunch is followed by siesta and an afternoon excursion to the ancient rock engravings of Twyfelfontein. Return to the camp for sundowners and dinner.
Mowani is taken from the word M'Wane, meaning 'Place of God', and it is here, that you will find the true meaning of peace and tranquillity. The luxury-tented accommodation is built unobtrusively, so as to ensure minimum impact on the natural environment. The stilt-like supports of the tents ensure that very little excavation was needed in order to create this special oasis. Much care has been taken with the design of the public areas, creating the impression of an African Village, with dome-like thatched structures that blend in with the imposing boulders, which are scattered around the outcrops.

We opted to do Sossusvlei from the air with the Visions tour and stay above the maddening crowds, buses and buzz.
