Itenga Wildlife Mobile Safari

Includes: Sossusvlei, Swakopmund, Himba, Etosha, Chobe & Vic Falls

The Itenga Wildlife Safari is a 15 day expedition exploring Namibia's finest tourist attractions combined with a visit to 2 of southern Africa's most famous drawcards. Overnight for 11 nights under canvas (standard mobile safari) sandwiched in between an opening and closing night in a well-known hotel or guesthouse. Your coastal stopover will be in similar lodgings in Swakopmund to your first and last night.

On alternate departures the safari runs in reverse - starting in Vic Falls and ending in Windhoek.

Highlights include:

  • Spend your first morning walking amongst beautiful star-shaped mountains of sand. Climb Big Daddy, the largest one of them all at Sossusvlei in the Namib Desert
  • Enjoy a short hike through Sesriem Canyon, a narrow gorge approximately 1km long.

DAY 1: WINDHOEK
Windhoek is a modern African city peppered with historical architecture dating back to German colonial rule. The capital has a variety of elegant shops, convenience stores, banking facilities, restaurants, bars, museums and a botanical garden. Many day trips and activities can be organized as well. You will be met by your guide at hotel reception at approximately 18h00.

DAY 2/3: NAMIB DESERT - SOSSUSVLEI
An early morning start is required for your expedition out of the city into the oldest desert in the world - the Namib. Enjoy a morning walking amongst some of the tallest sand dunes in the world at Sossusvlei and the much-photographed, eerie bleached skeletons of ancient camelthorn trees at Deadvlei. (An optional shuttle service is available on own account). On the way back to the campsite your day is enhanced with a short hike through Sesriem Canyon.

DAY 4: SWAKOPMUND
Picturesque Swakopmund is famous for its distinct German colonial buildings. Leisure time is often enjoyed at the country's premier seaside resort on the beaches and in the ocean. Both the coast and desert offer a number of exciting day trips and activities. (On own account). Alternatively visitors can take a stroll along shoreline walkways, shop for art, literature and crafts either side of a visit to a plethora of fine eateries and bars. Accommodation: a guesthouse in Swakopmund

DAY 5: TWYFELFONTEIN
Along the way there is the opportunity to gain a valuable insight into the lives of the local people. Their scattered settlements can be found throughout the area. The cultural theme continues later with a trip to a Damara Living Museum, established close to the world-famous rock engravings of Twyfelfontein itself. The museum consists of a huts, livestock, a blacksmith's shop and demonstrations of singing and dancing. Various hunting methods and types of food are highlighted on a bush walk. There are over 2,000 rock engravings to be viewed in the Twyfelfontein area - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. .

DAY 6: HIMBA VISIT
During the afternoon we visit a Himba village to gain a glimpse into their way of life. The Himbas are a semi-nomadic tribe, who live in scattered settlements throughout the region.

DAY 6/7/8: ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK
We travel through the truly unique landscape of the Park which is one of the most important and best reserves and game sanctuaries the world. Etosha is the last remaining natural wild sanctuary of the black rhino. We enjoy early morning and late afternoon game drives, visiting the famous Etosha Pan and numerous waterholes.

DAY 9: SAN VILLAGE
Visit the San Bushmen, the earliest known inhabitants of Namibia, in an authentic open-air 'Living Museum'. They generate an income for their community by keeping their traditional cultures, lifestyles and daily routines alive in today's modern world. This particular example of a Living Museum of the Ju/’Hoansi San at Grashoek was the first such venture to open (in 2004) and subsequently they are the only Bushmen still allowed to hunt traditionally.

DAY 10/11: KAVANGO RIVER
We travel north towards the border of Angola. We enter the Kavango region which is the home of the well-known woodcarvers. We camp at the banks of the Kavango River where hippos might be heard close by. The next morning visit Mahango Game Reserve, with the chances of spotting crocodiles, elephants, hippos and rare antelopes like Sable, Roan, and Sitatunga. In the afternoon we enjoy a mokoro excursion in this beautiful area.

DAY 12/13: CHOBE
We enter Botswana where we visit Chobe, famous for its magnificent sunsets and amazing landscapes. We enjoy a morning game drive in the national park, searching for big herds of elephants. In the afternoon we depart on a sunset cruise to watch the wild life from the comfort of our boat. Standard Mobile Safari (All meals)

DAY 14: VICTORIA FALLS
Victoria Falls is without doubt one of the most wonderful spectacles in the world. We have time at leisure to enjoy a variety of activities and to visit the falls

DAY 15: VICTORIA FALLS
The 15 day Itenga Wildlife Safari draws to a close. After breakfast guests can depart on their onward journey or book further day trips and activities or hotel accommodation in and around The Smoke That Thunders.

A Standard Mobile Safari uses public camping sites with communal ablution facilities and hot showers. The safari crew includes a professional guide and his assistant/chef who pre-erects your camp and are responsible for all camp duties.

2 person spacious, comfortable Dome tent (L2.5m x W2.5m x H1.85m) with built-in groundsheet 2 large aerating windows with mosquito netting.
Safari folding chair.
2 comfortable camp beds with foam mattress and pillow.
Large marquee tent (5m x 5m) is used for shade in summer
Food & drink
3 wholesome meals each day when camping, with dinner served ‘Al fresco’ under the stars - bush cuisine at its best!
Tea and coffee available in camp.
Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are not included and may be purchased at the start of the safari and en route.
Excludes lunches & dinners in Windhoek, Swakopmund and Victoria Falls.
