Introduction: Dwarf grass frogs (Ptychadena taenioscelis) can be observed in savannah woodlands and grassland. Their short, nasal bleats are called from wet mud, flooded short grass or shallow water.
Diet: Mainly insects and spiders.
Colouration: Brown upperparts with darker brown rectangular markings. Other features include a pale vertebral bank, a dark facial band from the snout to the eye and paravertebral skin ridges. The underside is creamy white to yellow, the throat spotted and the lower jaw marbled.
Breeding: After the 'froggy embrace' eggs are deposited over a 3hr period, moving a few metres during the process. Tadpoles grow up to 36mm.
Maximum size: 40mm.
