Introduction: Cerussite is derived from the Latin cerussa which means 'white lead'. The heaviness and characteristic snowflake type twinned crystals are 2 of their main features. Although usually white to grey or colourless, the addition of other minerals or elements can change the colour to green, black, red or blue crystals.
Distribution: Common at (the now defunct) Tsumeb Mine Vanadium deposits at Berg Aukas had white cerussite crystals. Also found at the Kombat Mine and at the Ai-Ais Lead Mine, the Uitsab Vanadium Mine and the Namib Lead Mine.
Crystal system: Orthorhombic.
Lustre: Resinous, adamantine.
