Introduction: So called because of its colour, hence the Latin name for white, 'albus'. It is a common rock forming mineral found in granites and other silica-rich igneous rocks.
Distribution: Occurs in large crystals in the Karibib-Usakos areas and from Klein Spitzkoppe, Erongo and the Rubicon pegmatites. Albite is also produced at the Natas and Kos mineral localities at Gamsberg.
Crystal system: Triclinic.
