Glycerine Worm

Introduction: The tapered body at each end of Glycerine worms (Glycera tridactyla) are separated by an elongate, slender and cylindrical middle. The narrow prostomium ends in a sharp point and the proboscis (tubular snout) is very long, cylindrical and tipped with 4 sharp jaws, which they will lash out with when disturbed.. They actively burrow in sandbanks

Distribution: From Swakopmund and Walvis Bay south to Sandwich Harbour, Bogenfels and Luderitz extending to the mouth of the Orange River.

Diet: Eats crustaceans and other worms.

Colouration: Pink when alive, white when dead.

Max size: 60mm.
