Zambezi Mubala Lodge

Zambezi Region - Namibia

Zambezi Mubala Lodge is situated on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River 40kms east of the northern Namibian town of Katima Mulilo. They offer first-class river fishing, birding, photography and boating. This is an ideal place to stay for self-drive tourists and families alike who seek exciting wildlife viewing opportunities combined with comfort and excellent service.

This lodge is an ideal stopover for 2 or 3 nights on the northern leg of your Namibian holiday. The lush savanna area of the region is bordered by the Kwando, Linyanti, Chobe and the Zambezi Rivers. Mubala means 'colour' in the local Silozi language, a reference to the harmonious colours of nature reflected on the Zambezi waters. Stay here on the way to or from Kasane, Victoria Falls and Livingstone before venturing into Chobe Natonal Park and further south to the world-famous Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve.

Modern-day explorers can also experience the thrills and excitement on the Zambezi on guided tours in purpose built boats. There is an exceptional variety of Namibian birdlife, game and vegetation to observe on an incredible labyrinth of waterways, floodplains and riverine forests.

You will be ferried to the lodge by boat. Enjoy the stunning surrounds on the way in as well as the beautiful setting of the lodge along the river banks. Scrumptious meals are served indoors or outside on communal or individual tables. The sparkling pool is the place to go to escape the hot Namibian afternoon sunshine, after a long drive or activity or to just cool off. Afterwards you can chill and relax on the shaded sun loungers, all set close to the water's edge.

Railed wooden walkways lead to your modern accommodation. There are:

  • Double Rooms: There are 17 spacious double rooms with an en-suite bathroom, air-conditioning, mosquito nets and a tea/coffee station. Enjoy stunning views of the going's on of the mighty Zambezi River from the comfort of your private veranda.
  • Family Cabins: The 4 family cabins have similar facilities to the double chalets.

Vast herds of elephant, buffalo, frequent sightings of lion, hippo and crocs can be viewed close up on small tender boats or mokoros. Zebra, antelope, lion, giraffe and puku are common visitors to the area. Sightings of sitatunga, red lechwe, spotted-necked otters, waterbuck, roan antelope, oribi and African wild dog are also possible. Angling is a real favourite on the Zambezi with in-season tiger fishing the main draw-card.

The region is also a birder's paradise. Over 450 species of birdlife have been recorded here, including Pel's owl, rock pratincole, African skimmers and Pygmy geese. This area is also the home to the colourful carmine bee-eaters. The colony's that congregate on the riverbanks are one of the largest in southern Africa.
