Boulders Camp Wolwedans

NamibRand - Namibia

Situated 45 kilometres south of the Wolwedans Dunes Lodge, and hugged by massive granite rocks, is Boulders Camp, the latest and undoubtedly most exclusive camp of the Wolwedans group. Guests book in at the farmhouse / reception and the camp is reached by a scenic 4WD transfer, which takes around 2 hours. This is a wonderful place to relax in luxury and enjoy the surrounding landscape.

The main tent has a comfortable lounge area, including a small library. There are outside seating areas, almost as comfortable as those inside. The dining room has a sociable, communal dining table, and if the weather permits, there is an outside dining area. Early morning fare is taken on the breakfast deck, and there is an open fire place for those cold winter nights. There is a resident chef, with waiter service. Close by is a well-chosen sundowner spot, overlooking the vast beauty of the NamibRand Reserve. Power is supplied by solar energy.

There are only 4 rooms, sleeping a maximum of eight guests here. Each spacious en-suite tent has a decorative four-poster bed, with fitted mosquito net, and a small dressing table. There is even an amazing view from the bathroom or guests can just lie back on the verandah and enjoy the environment.

Boulders Camp is the perfect location to explore the deep south of the NamibRand Nature Reserve. Guided scenic drives, and two to three hour walking safaris, can be organized here. Guests will be following in the footsteps of the San Bushmen in their ancient hunting grounds, accompanied by the Lodge's experienced guides, who will introduce them to the desert's habitat and diverse fauna and flora at the same time.

The maintenance and sustainability of the Reserve is paid for by every visitor's fixed daily park fee. That payment is channeled directly into the conservation of the NamibRand Nature Reserve. But special projects require additional funding and to help fund these projects, the Reserve has established the NamibRand Conservation Foundation. An independent organization, it raises funds through initiatives, such as the Adopt-a-Fairy-Circle Project.

A recent and very welcome addition to Wolwedans is the newly created Desert Academy. Their students will be given hands-on experience in all departments including laundry, kitchen, housekeeping, guiding, administration, maintenance and front of house skills.

Visitors to the Boulders Camp please note that they will have to go to the reception for hot-air ballooning and scenic flights. The minimum stay is 2 nights.

Parents with young children (pre-school age) are very welcome to stay, at Boulders Camp, if it is taken exclusively.
