Tsumkwe TUCSIN Lodge

Bushmanland - Namibia

Tsumkwe TUCSIN Lodge is situated in the town of Tsumkwe, which is the administrative centre of Bushmanland. It is on the road to the border post with Botswana. While the lodge is accessible by sedan car, via a good dirt road a 4x4 vehicle is required to explore the surrounding area of Bushmanland. The lodge is co-operating with the community run Nyae Nyae Conservancy, set up in 1998 to give the San people, the right to benefit from the wildlife and tourist activities in the area.

In addition to these benefits, the Hospitality and Training Centre is becoming a multi-functional organization focusing amongst other things on education and training. The lodge still operates as any other in Namibia, catering for local and international visitors to the area is still of the utmost importance.

The main lodge and lapa area houses the restaurant, bar, kitchen and braai. Breakfast is either a cooked English/Farmers or a selection of cereals. There is also a light lunch and set dinner menu. Other amenities include a tea/coffee facility available throughout the day and a laundry service. The swimming pool offers a welcome respite from the hot Namibian sunshine, especially after a long dusty drive or an enjoyable day trip to visit the San Bushmen.

Accommodation at Tsumkwe Lodge is in:

  • Twin Rooms: The 19 x twin rooms are equipped with 2 x twin beds an en-suite shower and flush toilet, mosquito net and fan. Enjoy the surroundings from your front lying veranda.
  • Family Room: The Family Room is ideal for a family of 2 adults and 2 small children. The facilities are similar to the twin rooms.

Take the opportunity to visit the Ju/'hoan (Bushmen) community on one of the lodge's half or full day guided tours. Here you will learn about their extraordinary hunting skills, and plants used in traditional medicines at these authentic, Bushmen villages. Alternatively, you could join a trip to the Khaudum National Park or Nyae Nyae Conservancy. Although it is possible to visit Khaudum in your own vehicle, entry is only allowed when two or more vehicles are travelling together.

Another feature of the area are the many Baobab trees, some more than 2000 years old. The largest is known as 'Holboom', which means 'Hollow Tree' in Afrikaans. .

Please note that activities need to be booked in advance.
