Otjiwa Safari Lodge

Lodge in the Otjiwarongo Area

Otjiwa Safari Lodge is one of the oldest game farms in Namibia and is set in 12,000ha of bushveld. It is a short distance south of the large town of Otjiwarongo making it an ideal stopover for individual, self-drive tourists and the business community travelling north from Windhoek. Those preferring a self-catering holiday will benefit from this lodge. Journey onto Waterberg Plateau, Rundu and Etosha National Park refreshed.

Otjiwa is also home to the Rare & Endangered Species Trust (REST) a vulture research and education centre. The region around Otjiwarongo is commonly known as the 'cheetah capital of the world'. Both the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) and Okonjima are dedicated to the conservation and rehabilitation of large cats and can be reached on a morning or afternoon drive.

The reception area and restaurant & bar are in the main building. Gourmet dishes and a selection of tasty home-style Namibian fare are complemented by fine wines, liqueurs, spirits and cool drinks. Breakfast and dinner are served in the dining room. The lounge opens onto a large patio with a water-cooled spray installation to ward off those blistering hot afternoons. Wine and dine to the sights and the sounds of the surrounding savannah bush veldt and the impressive Omboroko Mountains. Cool off in the large, designer swimming pool. A laundry service, safe parking and Wi-fi are also available. Valuables can be stored at reception. Self-catering guests are welcome to dine in the restaurant.

Accommodation is varied and occurs in 4 distinct 'lodges', each in a unique location. Some units are ideal for a 2 people, others for families and larger groups, especially those on a self-catering holiday.

  • Double Rooms: The 12 Double Rooms (max 2 adults) are all equipped with an en-suite bathroom with shower, toilet and wash-basin. Air-conditioning, a queen-sized bed, DSTV hotel package, bar/fridge, tea/coffee station, work station, wardrobe and linen/towels are standard. Step outside to your private verandah with exceptional views of the waterhole and stunning sunset vistas.
  • Mountain Lodge: There are 5 chalets each equipped with twin beds. An en-suite bathroom, mini-bar and air-conditioning are standard. Each unit is privately set with stunning views of the surrounding environment from your private verandah.
  • The Nest: This fully equipped modern house is set in the bush with views of a lit waterhole. This is a 4 bedroom self-catering unit, sleeping 4 per room which provides ample overnight lodging's for a large family or group. Dine in an open-plan kitchen or outside braai area and cool off in the small swimming pool all surrounded by large trees offering welcome shade. Tea/coffee station and a private verandah are standard.
  • Eagle’s Rest: There are 7 fully equipped self-catering units that vary from 4 to 6 bedrooms each with fans and an en-suite bathroom. The open plan kitchen, decorated by old railway sleepers is fully-equipped and meals can also be cooked on an outside fireplace. Step outside from your bedroom to an open private veranda overlooking the bush veld complete with sunset views.

There are 25 species of game species here including white rhino, a large herd of sable, roan antelope, oryx, warthog and giraffe.

Bird watching
Head to the dams to view the many species of bird life including the magnificent African fish eagle.
Game drives
Either early morning or late afternoon drives in search of game are available. Duration: 2hrs. Combo Drive: An additional 30mins can be added to the afternoon drive to turn it into a sundowner drive.
Vulture drives
Join a guided tour of the Vulture and Hotel Education Facility and learn about these interesting yet little-known birds of prey. Wild vulture feeding can be arranged.
Night game drive
Many creatures venture out to hunt for food in the hours of darkness. Duration: 2hrs. Other: Adults only.
Guided nature walk
Observe the natural flora and fauna of the Otjiwa property along marked pathways. Fantastic bird watching, game viewing and photographic opportunities abound. Time: 15h30. Duration: 2hrs. Distance: Up to 8kms. Other: Suitable for walkers of all ages and ability.
Mountain biking
Whiz round around the bush on 2 wheels.
Anglers can fish in a number of dams on a catch and release basis.
