Agama River Camp
Lodges near Sossusvlei - Namibia
Agama River Camp is a good choice for those wanting a comfortable, value-for-money lodge experience. Although the accommodation units are fairly small they are cleverly designed and well-furnished. The camp is 35km south of Solitaire, 45km north of Sesriem and only 45 min drive from the main gate to the Namib Naukluft Park. This makes Agama an ideal stopover for self-drive tourists who wish to visit the red sand sea dunes of Sossusvlei or for those going on a hiking trail into the park.
Agama Camp has a restaurant, bar, swimming pool and a popular viewing deck from which to admire the Naukluft Mountains and sip a sundowner as the beautiful sun sets. Breakfast and lunch packs can be arranged for those planning an early start to the dunes at Sossusvlei. If meals are required at the camp these need to be pre-booked before arrival at the camp (if you have booked on a B&B basis do not assume dinner will be avail bale unless this is pre-arranged)
There is also a guest lounge to relax and unwind after your excursion or hike. Valuables can be locked up in the safe in reception while you are away. Enjoy a cuppa in the 24hr tea/coffee facility based in the restaurant. Children of all ages are welcome. The name of the camp is derived from the Agama, a small, colourful long-tailed, insect-eating lizard. This was the first creature to be seen by the owners as they opened up the farm gate on their initial visit.
Accommodation is in 10 double rooms, all with twin beds The rooms have been cleverly designed to ensure the best possible views while at the same time keeping the interiors as cool as possible. En-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and fans are standard. Rooms 9 & 10 have an inter-leading door that is used for families. An exciting feature of the rooms at Agama Camp is the roof decks. They all have a table and chairs to admire the surrounding environment and bedrolls can be requested for a sleepover. A small safety wall has been built for those who tend roll around a bit in their sleep!
