For an alternative ballooning experience consider Hot Air Ballooning in Sossusvlei
This is an unforgettable ballooning adventure allowing you to experiencing total peace and tranquility over the Namib Desert.
The balloon is launched inland from the town of Swakopmund, to avoid the mist bank and allow for maximum visibility. The pilot has over 30 years of flying experience & more than 12 years of experience of ballooning at Swakopmund. After a short briefing it is time for lift off - once in the air there are splendid views of the town of Swakopmund, and the amazing sand dunes of the Namib Desert. The nature of ballooning is that your route goes wherever the wind takes you, so depending on the starting point and wind speed and direction you may fly above the coastal dunes, or even be more inland towards the Rossing mountain or even as far as Trekkeopje (in these cases you can see as far as the Spitzkoppe, Moonlandscape & and the Brandberg on a clear day).
The excitement of the flight is followed by a Champagne breakfast at the landing site. The flight lasts a total of about and hour, but it is recommended you put aside an entire morning for the activity as once transfers, preparation time & breakfast are include the activity often takes between 4 & 5 hours.
It is often cold in the desert during the early mornings so remember to bring warm clothes, perhaps even a woolly hat & gloves! But once you are up in the balloon the temperatures can rise quickly so it is recommended to dress so you can easily shed some layer, and also remember to bring sunscreen, a hat & sunglasses.
